Pride, along with excess, is part of Roger Dubuis’s mindset, a duality that allows you to freely explore new territories and the ability to showcase another side of your “personality”: dramatic uniqueness. Indeed, all of these characteristics are embedded in his very DNA, as it feeds on an obsessive desire for pleasure, freedom, and hedonism.
The result is the proud origin of the finest and most completely modern watches, in which a brand that dares to distinguish itself from others puts technology at the service of aesthetics. In its latest demonstration of all of the above, the Excalibur Superbia is a stunning modern embodiment of extravagance that is guaranteed to refresh the senses of the most inveterate connoisseur of unusual watches.

Thus, Roger Dubuis is shamelessly guilty of the most serious of the seven deadly sins: Pride, known in Latin as Superbia. Strongly associated with vanity and risk-taking, Superbia is also directly linked to an obsessive addiction to adrenaline, just like Superbia itself. Guided by this, Roger Dubuis created Excalibur Superbia, the perfect totem for a tribe of people who believe that life is just a game designed to maximize benefits.

Being a vivid example of the unshakeable pride and excess of the watch House, the Excalibur Superbia is made of palladium-enriched white gold and encrusted with exactly 600 precious white diamonds and blue sapphires. This is a truly extravagant and perfect case for the legendary Roger Dubuis Caliber. The new Double Flying Tourbillon movement, RD108SQ, is the first caliber with a double regulator connected to a differential, enlarged in volume and decorated with a diamond star.

The originality of the Excalibur Superbia has nothing to do with the alloy or the number of stones. Each stone, mounted on the flange, bezel, body and crown, is shaped like a tetrahedron and mounted with an invisible anchor on curved surfaces. The most difficult way to fix a stone is to fix it invisibly on a curved surface.
No jeweler or watchmaker has ever dared to fix precious stones in this way, no one has ever been crazy or ambitious enough to do it on a men’s watch. Until now. In this masterpiece, in which the complexity of the pattern exceeds any standards known to mankind, the masters of the Geneva manufactory have begun to create a frame encapsulating each stone from the back, in accordance with the brand’s complete determination to avoid using any materials between the stones themselves.

Further complicating the situation is that every sparkling stone in Excalibur Superbia is a tetrahedron, the shape of which requires unlimited cutting skill, as its extreme thickness significantly increases the risk of destruction.
The pattern was designed in such a way that all 238 stones presented in the Excalibur Superbia case had a different shape and were unique. In addition to the complex design, the long-suffering craftsmen of the Manufactory from time to time came across the connection points of six or seven stones converging simultaneously in one place.
However, the testing of the skills of jewelry virtuosos Roger Dubuis does not end there. The final test in Excalibur Superbia is grooving, the final step required to complete the invisible anchoring of perfectly triangular stones. This is so difficult to do with a tetrahedron stone that it took each jeweler an average of 30 minutes to make one groove, which corresponds to 900 hours of this operation alone on all three sides of 600 diamonds plus 420 hours to encrustate the case. and the bezel -and that’s not even counting the stone-cutting! The whole process takes about three times as long as the same case with baguette-cut stones. And just in case, having reached the very peak of complexity in the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Superbia style, this already painstaking innovative process was fully implemented on a curved surface.

The simple, direct and extremely revealing lines of this exceptional work of art strongly resemble the spatial art forms beloved by interior design artist Kaz Shirane, with whom the brand shares a number of characteristics.
“I create interactive spaces aimed at visitors. Whenever a user of a space enters a room filled with mirrors, an interaction takes place – a reflection in the mirrors – and the user can become a co-author of that space. This mirror space is designed to serve as a receiver and amplifier of the user’s will. The space literally reflects the visitor’s consciousness, allowing him to become an artist. The only rule imposed on visitors to my installation is to enjoy the space as freely as they want.

Roger Dubuis and I share a common vision: we create incredible works that make people feel like the main characters. For me, the Roger Dubuis Superbia watch is a time machine that can transport us to an unusual world in an instant. I always want to create such a space in my work. But what struck me most was that this is a highly artistic work: its distinctive design reflects the light so beautifully and it can be seen even from afar. It was an honor for me that my work inspired the creation of their new watches. This proves that art is multifaceted and can open up new possibilities.
I admire Roger Dubuis, who puts his whole heart into creating his products; the importance he attaches to quality as well as attention to detail are visible in all aspects. I look forward to exploring this masterpiece further. My role will be to express the philosophy of Roger Dubuis and allow clients to experience his unique world through my art,” Kaz Sheeran.

Excalibur Superbia is a watch that demonstrates a unified mindset focused on life to the fullest and with maximum intensity. In accordance with the great tradition of memento mori pocket watches and as a reminder that this time on earth is short and should be filled with boundless pleasure, madness and freedom, the words Memento mori are secretly written on the Excalibur Superbia movement. Because remembering that you have to die means remembering that you have to live – and this is undoubtedly the most exciting way to experience hyper-watch art.
