ROYAL OAK ULTRATHIN AUTOMATIC WITH FLOATING TOURBILLON – A COMPLEX MECHANISM IN A 37MM CASE

The new version of the Royal Oak Ultrathin Self-winding and Floating Tourbillon (RD#3) watch in a 37 mm case resembles the two RD#3 models from 2022, which were released in 39 and 37 mm steel cases, but for the first time made in 750 white gold.

The ultra-thin 750 white gold case and bracelet are decorated with the traditional alternation of satin surfaces and polished chamfers that interact with light like the facets of a diamond.

Expressive smoky blue dial

Like the steel version of the RD#3 37mm watch, this new watch features a number of aesthetic elements of the Jumbo dial. Like the 39mm models, it is decorated with a “Petite Tapisserie” pattern, now in new smoky blue tones.

The desired shade is created by vacuum spraying (Physical Vapour Deposition, PVD), and the smoky effect around the circumference is achieved by carefully spraying black lacquer onto the rotating dial.

Ultra-thin floating tourbillon movement

The watch is powered by an ultra-thin (only 3.4mm thick) 2968 caliber. The movement, first released in 2022, is equipped with automatic winding and a floating tourbillon. This elegant top-level watch complication counteracts the effects of gravity on the accuracy of the watch. The balance and descent are placed in it in a miniature carriage, which makes one revolution per minute so that the center of gravity of the system constantly changes its position.

Unlike conventional tourbillons, the floating tourbillon carriage has only one mounting point from below, which allows you to freely admire the beating of the mechanical heart of the watch from the side of the dial. Today, when only a few watch manufacturers have retained the skills to manufacture this complication, it is considered a symbol of watchmaking.
