RM 65-01 IS THE MOST DIFFICULT AUTOMATIC CALIBRE

An extremely sophisticated sports watch, a masterpiece of technical thought designed for everyday wear and appropriate in any situation: this definition can be given to Richard Mille’s latest creation, the new RM 65-01 model, which was released as a result of the brand’s relentless search for innovation.

The fruit of almost five years of development, this self-winding, split-second chronograph watch is the most sophisticated model ever produced by Richard Mille. By abandoning the limited edition, its creators pay tribute to the greatness of watchmaking. The model fully embodies the technical approach typical of the brand: a combination of a number of additional functions, an unparalleled design and first-class aesthetics. In short, it is a real achievement in the field of watch mechanics, which requires patience, advanced technical knowledge and perseverance to create.

PERFECTION AS AN IMMUTABLE PRINCIPLE

The RM 65-01 is our version of a highly sophisticated chronograph inspired by the world of motorsport. It perfectly reflects our technical approach by combining additional features, special design and high-end aesthetics.

RM 65-01 SELF-WINDING WATCH WITH SPLIT-SECOND CHRONOGRAPH

CALIBER RMAC4

Skeletonized self-winding movement, display of hours, minutes and seconds at 6 o’clock, date indicator, split-second chronograph with a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock” and a 12-hour counter at the 9 o’clock mark, a function selector, a fast winding function and a variable geometry rotor.

POWER RESERVE

Approx. 60 hours (± 10%).

The actual power reserve depends on the duration of use of the chronograph.

GRADE 5 TITANIUM BOARD AND BRIDGES

Board with grey electroplasma coating, bridges with black PVD coating and grey electroplasma coating. Grade 5 titanium is a biocompatible alloy characterized by excellent corrosion resistance and increased strength, which creates ideal conditions for the functioning of the wheel system. The alloy consists of 90% Grade 5 titanium, 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium. This composition gives the alloy improved mechanical properties, due to which it is widely used in the aerospace industry and in the automotive industry. The RMAC4 board has been optimized for the best possible ratio of extremely low weight and high strength. The skeletonized board and bridges have passed a full cycle of intensive tests, which allowed them to optimize their load resistance.

SPLIT-SECOND CHRONOGRAPH

The modern design of this mechanism is characterized by logic and consistency in the arrangement of its components, which not only simplifies, but also maximizes the operation of all its functions.

The RMAC4 movement is a split-second calibre of the latest generation, developed by Richard Mille engineers. The new 6-column wheel controls the levers of the split-second function and optimizes the operation of the chronograph. It provides even more well-coordinated control of the start and stop functions of the chronograph, and also helps to maintain its adjustment for a long time.

The almost complete absence of the usual twitching of the second hand when starting the chronograph, as well as the reduced energy consumption of all its functions, was the result of numerous studies in the field of design and manufacture of the corresponding wheels and levers.

FAST FACTORY MECHANISM

The quick-winding mechanism complements the self-winding function and the crown winding. It allows you to charge the crown spring in case the watch stops completely by pressing the button at the “8 o’clock” mark – an ideal solution when you need to quickly wind up a watch that has not been worn for a long time.

Richard Mille engineers, who call this extremely practical feature “fun”, put a lot of effort into its development due to the high level of torque transmission. During artificial wear testing, the fast factory function was activated thousands of times.

The selector is based on a device that works on the principle of an automobile gearbox and allows you to select the function of the factory, setting the date or adjusting the arrows. To translate these functions, a button in the center of the crown is used, which must be pressed until the desired function is selected. The arrow at the 4 o’clock mark will indicate W (factory), D (date) or H (arrows), respectively.

Half-instant switching, in the vertical window at the “11 o’clock” mark.

HIGH-FREQUENCY BALANCE WITH VARIABLE INERTIA

The high-frequency balanced balance, operating at a frequency of 5 Hz (36,000 pcs / h), provides increased stability of the watch to shocks and shocks and prevents possible negative consequences of disassembly and assembly of the mechanism, which has a positive effect on the accuracy of the movement in the long term. Thanks to this new Richard Mille development, readings can be measured with an accuracy of 1/10th of a second, which is especially important in watches with a split chronograph function used to measure athletic performance.

The use of a thermometer becomes unnecessary, as the balance allows for a more precise and reproducible adjustment of the stroke accuracy using four miniature adjusting screws.

VARIABLE GEOMETRY ROTOR

The RM 65-01 model uses a new variable geometry rotor to optimize the plant process.

This new exclusive Richard Mille engineering solution allows you to adjust the process of automatic winding depending on the level of physical activity of their owner – for example, if he regularly plays sports or enjoys active leisure activities.

By shifting the winglets to one of the three possible positions, you can change the inertia of the rotor and thus either increase the winding speed if the watch owner leads a sedentary lifestyle, or, conversely, reduce it if he is engaged in sports and other active activities. Thus, this invention makes it possible to optimize the operation of the factory device by adapting it to the lifestyle of the watch user.

TPT®CARBON FIBER CASE

Extremely durable TPT® carbon fiber has unique physical characteristics, due to which the body made of it is characterized by low weight with increased impact resistance. TPT® carbon fiber consists of more than 600 layers of parallel filaments obtained by separating carbon fibers. The layers, whose thickness does not exceed 30 microns, are filled with a special binder, and then woven on a special machine that changes the direction of the threads between the layers by 45 °. TPT® carbon is then heated to 120 °C at a pressure of 6 bar and processed at the Richard Mille manufacturing center. The resulting material is characterized by exceptional resistance to chipping and microcracking.

After assembly, the case remains watertight at a depth of up to 50 meters thanks to two circular nitrile gaskets. It is assembled using 20 Grade 5 titanium fluted screws and 316L stainless steel wear-resistant washers.
