The legend surrounding aventurine tells that in the thirteenth century on the island of Murano in Venice, where famous glassblowers lived, some copper filings fell into a pot of molten glass, thus creating aventurine glass, or “aventurina” in Italian, which means “accidentally”. Working with this fragile material requires considerable experience from the artisans. Thin plates are first cut from aventurine blocks. To create a dial, only completely homogeneous, bubble-free and uniformly speckled copper-colored ones are used.

During the 19th and 20th centuries, Ulysse Nardin earned an exceptional reputation as a master of deck chronometers for naval forces around the world. The accuracy of these instruments was crucial for calculating longitude to determine the ship’s position at sea. At that time, the House received awards for its excellence and supplied its inventions to more than fifty navies, geodetic institutes and astronomical observatories. This maritime experience led Ulysse Nardin to create the iconic marine chronometer, which embodies the company’s technical excellence. With the introduction of the Marine Torpilleur in 2017, a new generation of chronometers was born – watches that use the technical and aesthetic codes of the Marine Chronometer, including a fluted bezel, hour markers with Roman numerals, a double counter and hands with rhodium trim.

The new Marine Torpilleur Moonphase Aventurine, an exclusive limited edition of 300 copies, is decorated with a sparkling blue aventurine dial, reminiscent of the night sky, in a 42 mm stainless steel case. This watch features the UN-119 Manufacture movement, which is fully designed and assembled by Ulysse Nardin integrated manufactory and features a silicon balance spring, as well as a DIAMonSIL trigger wheel and anchor. This patented treatment, which combines silicon with synthetic diamonds to give the movement wear resistance and impact resistance, was first introduced in the Freak watch movement in 2007. Finally, the dual counter displays the power reserve at 12 o’clock and the small second hand at 6 o’clock, as well as the moon phase disk, which adds elegance to the starry night dial. Waterproof to 50 meters, this watch is complemented by a blue alligator leather strap with a folding clasp.

Inspired by the colors of the Milky Way, the new model Diver Starry Nigt presents a dial as charming as it is sparkling. To create it, Ulysse Nardin craftsmen applied two plates, one made of iridescent mother-of-pearl and the other made of blue aventurine glass. The brilliance of Diver Starry Night is enhanced by diamonds set around the bezel (0.8 carats) and 11 hour markers (0.12 carats). The mechanical heart of the watch, calibre UN-816, is equipped with an anchor fork and a silicon trigger wheel. This polished steel diving watch with satin finish is waterproof up to 300 meters and has a diameter of 39 mm, making it suitable for all wrist sizes. The new model is presented on a strap made of dark blue textured rubber or white alligator. With its hands and a 12-hour clock marker coated in white SuperLuminova®, it also provides excellent readability even in the dark.
