Three new Audemars Piguet models in blue ceramic cases

The new shade of ceramics celebrates the beauty of the sky over the Vale de Joux, the region where Audemars Piguet was born.

Audemars Piguet has introduced 3 new models with a blue ceramic body. The unusual feature of this release is that the ceramic shade refers to the color of the dial of the first Royal Oak Ref. 5402 model.

More than half a century ago, a color called “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” was developed by a well–known manufacturer of dials, the Stern Brothers company. A special shade of blue with the effect of a cloudy haze was obtained by adding a protective capon to the black color No. 50. If earlier this shade was difficult to reproduce, since its production strongly depended on the duration and temperature of the galvanic bath, now it is obtained by PVD spraying.

There is a sentimental meaning to this whole story: the shade “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” celebrates the beauty of the night sky over the Vale de Joux, the region where Audemars Piguet was born. The development of ceramics in the color of the night sky took several years.

The first model to receive a body made of a new material is the Royal Oak skeleton with a double balance. The open movement of the watch has a rhodium-plated case with a diameter of 41 mm. The operation of the model is provided by the calibre 3132, an automatic movement with two balances located on the same axis. Two coaxial balances with two spirals (the solution was patented in 2016) oscillate synchronously, which allows you to improve the accuracy of the clock.

The monochrome aesthetics of the new Royal Oak Offshore chronograph are disrupted only by individual details: visible steel screws on the bezel, titanium back cover and dial elements made of white gold. The 42 mm diameter case is equipped with a ceramic bracelet with hidden pins.

The other Royal Oak Offshore chronograph from this three is designed in bicolor aesthetics. The 43 mm diameter case is made of ceramic. The bezel, chronograph buttons, and crown are made of steel, while the phosphor-treated dial details are made of white gold. It is suggested to wear the watch on a calfskin strap, which comes with a rubber strap.
