Breguet Classique Double Tourbillon 5345 Quai De l’Horloge

The Breguet company introduced the Classique Double Tourbillon watch. This is an unusual orbital tourbillon in which two tourbillon crates are mounted on a mechanism plate.

The entire plate in the watch case rotates every 12 hours, and the upper bridge of the tourbillon performs the function of a clock hand. This is the first version of the watch with an open dial, where two winding springs are also located on the movement plate, which are hidden in other versions of the watch.

Each tourbillon has its own running gear, and the two gears are arranged symmetrically. The output signal of the two tourbillons is averaged by the differential to obtain a single average value that determines the rotation speed of the mechanism and, thus, the degree of movement of the hour and minute hands.

A serious statement in the field of watchmaking is admired, and at the same time retains some of the cosmopolitan grace and elegance that characterized much of Breguet’s work at its best. Breguet himself is certainly rightfully famous for his great care and restraint, which he showed both in the design of the dials and in the design of the mechanisms. His aesthetic preferences were not limited to the case, but permeated every part of his watch.

The case of the watch is made of platinum, its dimensions are 46 x 16.8 mm, including a convex sapphire crystal. On the side of the dial, a huge number of crafts and lots of kinetic entertainment are demonstrated. A surprise awaits the watch owner on the back of the case. Usually the back of this type of watch is quite boring.

The reverse side, which is made of pure gold, is engraved with a scene from the early 19th century. In fact, this building at 39 Quai d’orloge is depicted as it would have looked in Breguet’s time. The engraving is extremely detailed, down to the texture of the bricks themselves and the light haze that hangs in the sky.

According to Breguet, the golden color of the wheels, visible through various slots, is designed to create the effect of candles at dusk. There is even a seated figure looking out of one of the lower windows. The watch is available as part of a regular collection at a price of 628,000 CHF.
