Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Ceramic Rabbit

In the year of the Rabbit, Hublot, in collaboration with Chinese artist Wen Na, created a unique painting for the watch face Spirit of Big Bang Black Ceramic Rabbit. On the eve of the Lunar New Year, the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Hublot invited Wen Na to create a New Year’s painting “The Year of the Rabbit”, a miniature of which he used to decorate the dial of the Spirit of Big Bang Ceramic Rabbit watch.

The fusion of traditional Chinese culture with modern fine watchmaking has given rise to new ideas: Wen visualized 12 double clocks made of Heavenly stems and Earthly branches and combined them with traditional elements of the Lunar New Year. Therefore, the dial depicts festive lanterns, fireworks and a lion dance, an intriguing world that allows you to enter the new year. The new model is the complete embodiment of the spirit of Art of Fusion from Hublot.

In traditional Chinese culture, the rabbit is considered sacred and auspicious, so the year 2023 of the Rabbit is considered a “happy year.” Hublot gave the green light to the artist to receive an exclusive collaboration. Wen Na created a New Year’s theme painting in her vivid artistic style, using unrestrained imagination. A group of adorable rabbits have fun dancing the lion dance, holding firecrackers, or indulging in other traditional Chinese entertainment, celebrating wonderful moments over time. This scene depicts the energetic and prosperous year of the Rabbit, and also conveys the atmosphere of the Lunar New Year, the occasion for a family reunion.

Inspired by the concept of the Hublot Art of Fusion brand, Wen drew inspiration from the ancient calendar of Heavenly Trunks and Earthly Branches, an ancient and mysterious cultural treasure of China. The artist believes that sophisticated art in our world manifests itself in a variety of forms, the essence of which lies in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. In her painting, a group of savvy rabbits brings to life traditional customs associated with the Lunar New Year, including performing dragon and lion dances, installing or changing door gods, hanging festive lanterns, and presenting and receiving red packages (a gift for the year of the Rabbit with money in red envelopes). There is always something to enjoy at every double hour – from the Zee Hour to the Hi Hour. The twelve earth branches are also used to record the year and month, which means that every day and every month is a good time in the Hublot time world.

Moreover, in Wen’s mind, rabbits are not just gentle and cute. She gave the rabbits a more modern look by presenting them in a slightly playful style. Adhering to the theme of the Year of the Rabbit and the quintessence of traditional Chinese culture, Wen has changed the familiar image of gentle rabbits and artistically recreated funny rabbits that are energetic at different times of the day, breathing in them the fresh vitality of the new year and accurately interprets Hublot’s innovative and innovative spirit of “being different.”

Originally from China, Wen Na is known as one of the leading young contemporary Chinese artists due to her distinctive artistic style. She graduated with a degree in engraving and during her university years established an inextricable link with the “fusion of arts”. From mural painting to sculpture, and from art to music, Wen is constantly experimenting with fusing different art forms, using unique aesthetic concepts to inspire new thinking about contemporary art. The “fusion of arts”, which, according to Wen, is a driving force of inspiration and imagination, and also corresponds to the concept of the Hublot Art of Fusion brand. Thanks to its ingenuity and skill, Hublot has combined seemingly diametrically opposed materials and joined forces with the most talented practitioners in various fields to push the boundaries of what is possible from a technical and aesthetic point of view and set new trends in watchmaking.

The watch has a barrel-shaped case, typical of the Spirit of Big Bang collection, and includes all the elements of the classic Big Bang watch design: six H-shaped screws on the bezel, lugs on the sides of the case, a molded rubber screw-down crown decorated with the iconic letter H, and a multi-layered construction. In addition, the Spirit of Big Bang Black Ceramic Rabbit watch is made of black ceramic to provide a perfect contrast with the gorgeous image on the dial where rabbits celebrate the Lunar New Year. The 42 mm diameter case houses the HUB1710 automatic movement with a 50-hour power reserve. The Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Black Ceramic Rabbit watch is available in a limited edition of 12 pieces.
