The Big Bang MP-11 Water Blue Sapphire watch is definitely the most important and important novelty in the wide range of Hublot releases for 2024. The manufactory continues to experiment with the production of sapphire crystal cases in different colors, and now the Big Bang MP-11 model is available in a shade reminiscent of the frozen Lake Baikal illuminated by the winter sun. The skeletonized dial allows you to observe the operation of the most complex HUB9011 caliber, which gives as much as 14 days of power reserve. The novelty is limited to 50 copies.
BIG BANG MP-11 WATER BLUE SAPPHIRE:
HUBLOT PRESENTS A NEW VERSION OF THE SAPPHIRE WATCH
The MP-11 model, as before equipped with a sculptural mechanism with 7 reels and a 2-week power reserve, appears in a new color: shining and transparent cold blue. A new color that has expanded the palette of Hublot sapphires, and the first time in the history of a model that has been produced from more contrasting materials up to this point.
For some, it was only yesterday. For others, it’s been an eternity. Just think about it: Baselworld 2018! With enviable regularity, Hublot gives cause for excitement to all those involved in fine watchmaking, who follow with interest the works that defy conventions. The MP-11 model is no exception. Six years later, this watch remains the same: unique, the first in the world and unrepeatable.

The high level of the target should be recognized: seven reels and a 14-day power reserve. It’s a good guideline to aim for! But besides the numbers, there is also a technology that remains the pinnacle of innovative watch mechanics. To preserve the classic thickness of the mechanism (10.9 mm), the seven drums are arranged coaxially and vertically. They are not part of the mechanism. On the contrary, they are located on top of it at an angle of 90 °.

In order for the watch to have a power reserve of 336 hours, Hublot needed to develop a special device: a cylinder-worm gear located at an angle of 90°, operating on the principle of an endless screw. The gear wheel in question can be easily viewed between the “9” and “10 o’clock” marks. To maintain overall harmony, Hublot decided to set the balance opposite this device at 2 o’clock, and the oscillation indicator at 4 o’clock. The Hublot HUB9011 caliber, consisting of 270 parts, has a patented hour pointer mounting system and a silicon trigger that protects the mechanism from thermal effects and electromagnetic fields.

A very slowly rotating disk (one revolution every two weeks) indicating the remaining power reserve is mounted directly on top of seven parallel reels. In addition, by repeating the shape of the drums, the sapphire crystal naturally creates the effect of magnifying this signature element of the watch. The Big Bang MP-11 can be wound manually using a large grooved crown, the profile of which resembles a bevel wheel or the tip of a Torx electric screwdriver. This sculptural design is truly worthy of the name “Manufacturing Detail”, earning its place in the MP collection.
“The uniqueness of Hublot, a full–cycle manufactory, lies in the technical perfection of both the mechanism itself and the watch case. Research and development is at the core of our DNA, and each MP series model, made possible by an innovative approach, gives us the opportunity to test new versions of sapphires in practice, which can later become part of our regular collections. The MP series models are a laboratory that explores what the watchmaking art of the future might look like today.”
A new variety of cool blue sapphire
The MP-11 model has tried on the most daring materials: ceramics, SAXEM, Magic Gold, 3D carbon fiber. But sapphire is still the preferred material for Hublot. The manufactory is an undisputed expert in the use of this material, offering the widest range of shades in the watch industry. The 2024 MP-11 model is no exception to the long tradition of innovation that underpins Hublot’s DNA. For the first time, the model is made of cool blue sapphire.

The new shade is obtained thanks to an updated, individually developed chemical formula and has a unique transparency index, while maintaining the standard properties of sapphire: shine, light transmission, unchanged appearance and 100% resistance to bumps and scratches. It should also be noted the quality of polishing, which is achieved through a very complex manual process. Strict specifications were required to achieve the result, and the development and testing took several years, in particular, testing under conditions simulating accelerated aging and testing for absolute water resistance. The result is close to perfection, in keeping with the spirit of the MP collection.
