Omega Speedmaster CK 2998 Limited Edition

The original Omega CK 2998 was released in 1959, and for collectors it has become one of the most sought-after Speedmaster releases in the world. The alpha hands, symmetrical case and dark bezel have always delighted fans of watchmaking.

The model also has a special reputation as “the first Omegs watch in space.” In 1962, astronaut Walter “Wally” Schirra made history when he donned his own Speedmaster CK 2998 during the Sigma 7 mission of the Mercury program. Today Omega used this classic model as inspiration for the new version. Although many of the iconic features have been retained, there are a few subtle updates to the design.

All three chronograph drives are black, as well as a minute scale and a polished ceramic bezel with a white heart rate monitor. The watch is equipped with a perforated black leather strap with a white rubber insert. The heart rate monitor scale, which is used to check a person’s heart rate per minute, has a special relationship to CK 2998. With the original models, customers could choose from four different bezel design options (including tachymeter, heart rate monitor, 100-minute scale, or telemetry).

The polished and satin-finished stainless steel case is complemented by a silver sandblasted dial, on which the dark gray alpha hour and minute hands are clearly visible. The chronograph’s second hand is covered with red lacquer. The legacy of the historical model also has its continuation in the form of the 1861 Caliber, which has its roots in the history of the Moonwatch.
