New Patek Philippe Gondolo Serata

A novelty quartz watch with a sapphire dial and a zebra engraved on it.

Patek Philippe has introduced the new Gondolo Serata model. The novelty is distinguished by a spessartite inlay and an unusual sapphire dial, on which the image of a zebra is engraved.

The model from the Gondolo Serata series is an infrequent guest in the Patek Philippe range. First released in 2006, these watches were offered in diamond-encrusted cases with a guilloche mother-of-pearl dial. In 2021, the first models of the series (ref. 4972G-001 and 4972/1G-001) were discontinued, and 2 years later the watch was returned to the current Patek Philippe collection in a slightly updated design.

The 2023 model (ref. 4962/200R-001) received an enlarged rose gold case, which complemented the lacquered brown dial with floral decoration. The jewelry accent in the design was the inlay of the case with spessartites. This year, Patek Philippe introduced a reinterpreted model from 2 years ago, which focuses on the dial.

Zebra stripes, which flow into a three–dimensional image of an animal on the dial, is a pattern inspired by the Golden Ellipse ref. 5738/50G-023 model with a cloisonne enamel dial, which was released in 2022. The base of the composition is a sapphire dial. At the first stage, it is engraved on both sides and filled with ink. Then the resulting pattern is metallized and finally a white varnish is applied to the inner surface of the stack.

The case dimensions are 28.6 x 40.85 mm. The inlay uses 94 diamond-cut spessartites, which are fixed in such a way that they convey a double gradient: vertically, in the area between “12” and “6 o’clock” are cognac-colored spessartites, and horizontally between “9” and “3 o’clock” is encrusted with orange stones. The transitions between colors and the different size of the stones emphasize the curved profile of the case.

The new Gondolo Serata (ref. 4962/200R-010) comes with a white calfskin strap, which is fastened with a rose gold buckle with the Patek Philippe logo.

Inside there is a quartz movement 2.07 mm thick, powered by a silver oxide battery. The battery life is 3 years.
