FLYING INSTRUMENT
Precision, lightness, and resistance are closely related to materials and architectural structures. We always benefit from engineering materials from fields beyond watchmaking. These new and technical materials are recognized today in High Watchmaking for their aesthetic and mechanical properties.
The RM 21-02 Aerodyne Tourbillon has set the highest limits for watchmaking, both in terms of design, mechanical ingenuity and the use of materials.
DURABILITY TO SAVE
We intended to achieve extreme lightness on the RM 21-02, and we managed to build it on a cellular structure. The goal was to match and laser weld each tiny cell. This achievement on such a microscopic scale is a major technical tour de force.

HAYNES®214® CELLULAR ORTHORHOMBINE SUPPORT FILM WITH TPT® CARBON CORE
HAYNES® 214® is a nickel-chromium-aluminum-iron alloy designed to provide optimal high temperature oxidation resistance of forged austenitic material, while allowing conventional molding and joining. Designed primarily for use at temperatures of 955°C and above, alloy 214® is resistant to oxidation, which far exceeds the resistance of almost all conventional heat-resistant forged alloys at these temperatures.
Combined with the Carbon TPT® core, the HAYNES® 214® honeycomb geometric pattern provides unparalleled rigidity, low coefficient of thermal expansion, and exceptional torsional resistance.

FREE BALANCE WITH VARIABLE INERTIA
This type of balancing wheel guarantees greater reliability in the event of impacts and during assembly or disassembly of movement, as well as guarantees better timing results over time. The index of the regulator is eliminated, and more accurate and repeatable calibration is possible thanks to 4 small adjustable screws located directly on the balance.

CLASS 5 TITANIUM BRIDGES
The axles are made of Class 5 titanium, a biocompatible, highly corrosion-resistant and surprisingly tough alloy that allows transmission transmissions to function effortlessly. The alloy consists of 90% Grade 5 titanium, 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium. This combination further enhances the mechanical properties of the material, which explains its frequent use in the aerospace, aeronautical and automotive industries.

FUNCTION SELECTOR
Like a car’s gearbox, the button located in the center of the crown allows you to select the winding, neutral, and manual pressing functions. The hand at the “4 o’clock” position indicates the selected function.

TORQUE INDICATOR
This indicator provides information about the tension of the spring, which makes it possible to optimize the chronometric functioning of the mechanism. Below 5.3 n. mm, the spring is considered too weak, while above 6.5 n. mm, excessive tension in the spring can negatively affect the operation of the mechanism or actually endanger it.

POWER RESERVE INDICATOR
The power reserve indicator shows the number of hours of energy remaining in the mainspring before the clock must be wound up again.

CASE MADE OF QUARTZ TPT®, CARBON TPT® AND TITANIUM
From the case and dial to every part of the movement, the design and execution of the watch demonstrate a holistic approach to the concept of movement, case and dial. As a result, everything was built according to extremely strict specifications. The body ring is eliminated, and the mechanism is attached to the chassis using four Class 5 titanium screws and ISO SW silent blocks.
The bezel is made of TPT® carbon and TPT® green quartz, two exclusive materials with a unique appearance. Their remarkable surfaces exhibit extremely regular mutations, as they consist of multiple layers of parallel filaments produced by fission of carbon fiber or silica filament. These layers with a maximum thickness of 45 microns are impregnated with black and green matrices, and then woven on a special machine that changes the direction of the weft by 45° between the layers. Heated to 120 °C at a pressure of 6 bar, these materials are then ready for processing on a CNC machine at the Richard Mill plant.
TPT® green quartz is also used for the back, while the case is made of satin-finished grade 5 titanium with TPT® carbon columns.
