Roger Dubuis Excalibur Quatuor Cobalt MicroMelt

Watch manufacturer Roger Dubuis presented the watch Quatour Cobalt MicroMelt, which for the first time in the world is made of a high-tech cobalt-chromium alloy. The watch was named Quatuor because it became the world’s first watch with 4 balances. Roger Dubuis likes to use non-standard materials in the manufacture of watches, having once released a silicon Quatuor, and now a cobalt chrome alloy.

Cobalt chromium is an alloy with very high specific strength and biocompatibility. It is widely used in the medical and aviation industries, producing turbines, artificial knee and hip joints, and even dental crowns.

According to Roger Dubuis, the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Quatuor Cobalt MicroMelt watch case is made using an exclusive process called MicroMelt. This is a long list of processes that include melting and atomizing the alloy as a fine powder before it is mixed and packaged in containers for pressing and producing high-density hot-rolled strips. The MicroMelt process ensures that the final product is homogeneous in its density, resulting in higher strength. The surface of the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Quatuor Cobalt MicroMelt watches has a gloss, unlike cases made of stainless steel or titanium.
