The Explorer 40 watch, made of Oystersteel steel and comes with an Oyster bracelet, is equipped with a Chromalight dial that emits a long-lasting blue glow in the dark, and stands out in a particularly bright white shade in daylight. The Explorer 40 model is equipped with state-of-the-art mechanics, Caliber 3230, which allows you to use the basic timekeeping functions: hours, minutes and seconds.

The Oyster Perpetual Explorer 40 model, like all Rolex watches, has been certified as a Superlative Chronometer, indicating that they perform exceptionally well during operation. Rolex has deep roots in the exploration industry, and the Explorer model, introduced in 1953, is a prime example of this. In the 1930s, the company began sending Oyster watches on many different Himalayan expeditions. Among them were Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, the first people to reach the summit of Mount Everest at an altitude of 8,848 meters. This groundbreaking action demonstrated the company’s commitment to treating the outside world as a testing ground, exposing its watches to real-world conditions so that they can be continuously improved. Rolex has improved the accuracy and durability of its watches largely due to the comments and suggestions of the people who participated in these various expeditions.

The Explorer 40 is a work of art in terms of durability and reliability, thanks to the Oyster’s 40mm case, which is waterproof to a depth of 100 meters. The middle segment of the body of this new model is made of a single piece of Oystersteel steel. The back cover with shallow grooves is hermetically sealed, so that only Rolex watchmakers have access to the mechanism. The Twinlock crown is doubly waterproof due to its screw-down design, which fits snugly against the case. The sapphire crystal is coated with anti-reflective material, which makes it scratch-resistant. The Oyster case is waterproof, which ensures maximum safety of the mechanism inside.

The calibre 3230 is a movement created by Rolex from beginning to end. This self-winding movement is a technological masterpiece offering unsurpassed precision, power reserve, ease of use and reliability.

The Chronergy trigger mechanism, exclusive to the 3230 caliber, combines exceptional efficiency and reliability. The escapement, made of nickel-phosphorus alloy, can withstand strong magnetic fields without any damage. Rolex uses a blue Parachrom spiral made of paramagnetic alloy in its mechanisms. The spring provides exceptional stability over a wide temperature range and excellent impact resistance. To improve the impact resistance of the mechanism, Rolex installed the oscillator on its patented high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers. The ball bearing supporting the Perpetual winding rotor has been improved. The excellent descent efficiency and the 3230 caliber drum design provide a power reserve of about 70 hours.

The Oyster bracelet is included with the Explorer 40. The Oyster Perpetual three-link bracelet, designed in the late 1930s, is the most popular and widely worn bracelet in the collection.

The Oyster bracelet of the new model is equipped with a folding Oysterlock safety clasp, which makes it impossible to accidentally open the bracelet. The length of the bracelet can be adjusted by the user using a convenient 5 mm wide Easylink extension cable developed by the company.
