Breguet Reine de Naples 8918 Mint Green

Breguet pays tribute to femininity by introducing a new version of its iconic collection. The Reine de Naples watch is presented in an exquisite fresh mint green shade – Breguet Reine de Naples 8918 Mint. This watch serves as a true ode to femininity, paying tribute to the women who have left an indelible mark on history, who are trendsetters and are working for the future.

As the leading watchmaker of his time, Abraham-Louis Breguet enjoyed the patronage of the French royal family and the aristocracy. Among the names on his list was Napoleon Bonaparte’s younger sister, Caroline Murat, also known as the Queen of Naples.

Napoleon Bonaparte’s younger sister Caroline Murat was one of these brilliant, inspiring personalities. She was a woman of great intelligence and literary culture, a patroness of the arts and a collector. She took a keen interest not only in the art world, but also in economic, social and educational issues in her kingdom, organizing projects such as the establishment of schools for young girls and the reform of coral factories.

Caroline Murat was particularly fond of Abraham-Louis Breguet watches and has amassed an impressive collection of more than 30 examples. At a time when women wore their watches in the form of Sautoir necklaces, she gave Abraham-Louis Breguet a bold and avant-garde order for watches that she could wear on her wrist. It was 1810, and the founder of Breguet began working on this unique model: the world’s first wristwatch.

From the time of delivery in 1812 to repairs in 1849 and 1855, the Breguet archives recreate the history and characteristics of these now-vanished watches. This slender oblong creation, framing a silver guilloche dial, included several complications: a quarter repeater, a moon phase, and a thermometer.

In 2002, Breguet presented the Reine de Naples collection, inspired by the individual design of the Queen of Naples. In 2024, the Reine de Naples remains Breguet’s flagship women’s watch collection, characterized by oval-shaped cases and available in a wide range of styles from simple to extravagant. The mint green Breguet Reine de Naples 8918 has successfully expanded the range.

The oval-shaped case of the Reine de Naples 8918 measures 36.5 x 28.45 x 10.1 mm and is made of 18k white gold. As is customary with most Reine de Naples watches, the bezel is decorated with diamonds. A diamond ring can be seen on the flange. 117 round-cut diamonds are distributed around the bezel and flange; in addition, the crown, which is located at 4 o’clock, is decorated with a round-cut diamond. Like all Breguet watches, the sides of the case are decorated with fine fluting. Water resistance is not a priority here, it is designed for 30 meters.

Green is the color of the watch du jour. The Breguet design is fresh and minty, which is reflected in the stylized and enlarged Breguet numbers on the dial and the mother-of-pearl alligator leather strap. The strap is equipped with a folding clasp with three slots, decorated with 28 round-cut diamonds.

According to Breguet, two shades of green were applied to create the numbers, which added depth and saturation. The only missing digit is “6”, replaced by a pear—shaped diamond located under the off-center hour and minute dials. The additional dial sparkles with a large number of diamonds arranged using the increasingly popular “snow pinning” technique, in which different sizes of gems are placed together to create an irregular but cohesive pattern.

The time is shown by Breguet’s signature blue hands with tips that point to a black minute scale that includes symbols that the company says are inspired by pocket watches designed by the founder. Under the Breguet logo, between 11 and 12 o’clock, there is a unique watch number — a tradition that has been preserved since the earliest times of the watch company.

Through the back cover of the watch, you can see the 537/3 self-winding 3.5 Hz movement. It consists of 191 components, including a flat balance spring and a built-in Swiss silicon lever escapement for additional magnetic resistance. The platinum rotating rotor provides the mechanism with a power reserve of 45 hours. The Breguet mechanism is elaborately decorated with traditional finishes: a Côte de Genève pattern, polished screws and bevels. The alligator leather strap has a folding clasp decorated with 28 diamonds.

This is one of those watch models that usually looks much better on the wrist than in the photos. The fresh mint green shade looks good on the watch; it adds a more relaxed atmosphere to a solid watch collection. The Breguet Reine de Naples watch (ref. 8918BB5D964D0) in mint green costs 49,700 USD and is already available in Breguet boutiques and from authorized retailers.
