As part of the “Hublot Loves Art” initiative, launched 10 years ago, Hublot collaborates with talented contemporary artists and designers and creates completely innovative collectible watches with them. Samuel Ross became the new creator who continued this baton.

Creative director, artist, director and fashion designer, 30-year-old Samuel Ross has already managed to work with many fashion houses and creative organizations, launch his own brand of men’s sportswear A-Cold-Wall* and his design studio SR_A. In 2019, Ross was awarded the prestigious Hublot Design Prize, and a year later he was announced as the official brand ambassador and created a minimalist granite and steel sculpture that reflected 40 years of Hublot history.

Samuel Ross is one of the people who identify trends. His meeting with Hublot took place in 2019, when he was awarded the prize Hublot Design Prize.

His creations are equally aesthetic and functional. He creates simple and amazing things. His professional destiny is unique, and his success is rapid. The Hublot brand is associated with bold innovative solutions, timeless synthesis of tradition and innovation, as well as page-less potential in creating new materials. This collaboration clearly demonstrates our approach to creativity and decision-making based on promptness, efficiency and accuracy. The history of Hublot’s concise and restrained design is represented in my sculpture through a monochrome color palette, a bright touch and a juxtaposition of enlarged elements.

THE ART OF COMBINATIONS

The stylized hexagonal shape of the Big Bang case is reflected in the titanium honeycomb pattern used for the sapphire crystal of the dial, case, back cover and bracelet. The main building block of nature (bee hives, snake scales, pineapple shells, snowflakes…), durable and effective shape can cover the surface smoothly without gaps and overlaps. Due to this property, the hexagon is considered the standard of modern construction and design.

AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT WITH TOURBILLON

This movement, designed and manufactured at the Manufactory, symbolizes the watchmaking skills of Hublot. It is distinguished by an automatic ball bearing factory, which provides a convenient three-day power reserve. The caliber, which is also innovative in its design, is equipped with a micro-rotor on the side of the dial and three bridges made of sapphire glass. The unprecedented location and technological excellence highlight the impressive aesthetics of the tourbillon and its modern design.

TITANIUM

Hublot uses titanium extensively due to its exceptional lightness. It has the most advantageous strength-to-weight ratio among metals, which explains its widespread use, for example, in the aviation industry. It is also highly resistant to corrosion and neutral in contact with skin. Hublot uses only the highest Grade 5 titanium, the hardest of all. Due to polishing, this material acquires a slightly bluish metallic sheen.
