Hublot Depeche Mode Spirit of the Big Bang Depeche Mode Memento Mori
The English musical group Depeche Mode has long been collaborating with Hublot to design limited-edition watches that are sold to support various good causes, including raising public awareness and financing environmental and humanitarian causes. Their collaboration began 14 years ago with a series of watches with unique dials featuring the album cover.

The new Hublot Spirit of the Big Bang Depeche Mode features a skull dial in honor of the band’s latest album Memento Mori. The band had previously taken a break, but last year they broke their silence with the release of the new album “Memento Mori” and a tour in honor of the death of one of its members. The band has already scheduled the release of the album Memento Mori, and the tragic incident has strengthened their resolve to bring the album to life as a reminder to people to fully live in the present and reflect on the value of time. This concept on the watch is symbolized by a skull decorated with an hourglass.

In March 2023, Depeche Mode announced their big comeback with the release of Memento Mori, their 15th studio album, as well as a worldwide concert tour. While still collaborating with the band, which has sold over 100 million albums, Hublot is helping to raise funds and awareness for the Conservation Collective, a global charity that brings together a network of regional charities working to protect, preserve and restore the environment. With funding from Depeche Mode and Hublot, the first round of anti-plastic pollution projects in 2023 supported seven effective initiatives in seven countries, and three more rounds of funding will drive even more positive change. The projects aim to turn the tide on plastic by stimulating local initiatives for waste management, plastic rejection, and clean-up.

It is against this background that Hublot and Depeche Mode have teamed up again in Berlin, 11 years after their first joint event in the German capital, to release a new limited edition watch.: The Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode. The signature shape of the Spirit of Big Bang keg is designed with the iconic aesthetics of the Hublot All Black in mind. Created in collaboration with Depeche Mode, the design combines the skull motif — the emblem seen in the video announcing the band’s return — with an hourglass symbolizing the passage of time. The center of the dial is filled with small black ceramic spheres that symbolically move back and forth with the movement of the wrist, conveying the concept of Memento Mori. This Latin phrase, meaning “remember death,” is intended to encourage you to think about the transience of life. Next to the dial at 6 o’clock are the initials DM, the logo of the British band. The indexes are shaped like pyramid-shaped studs, this motif echoes the black ceramic bezel.
The barrel-shaped case with a diameter of 42 mm is made of polished black ceramic, sandblasted. The case for this Depeche Mode series is made of ceramic. This means that the color will not fade from scratches. The use of ceramic as the case material also sets them apart from many other all-black watches on the market.

Despite the ceramic material, the case retains a significant number of details, such as faceted surfaces and chamfers made with contrasting finishes, such as polishing and sandblasting. This is noteworthy because ceramics are more difficult to process. It has a HUB1710_SD self-winding movement with a power reserve of 50 hours. Each Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode model comes with two straps that can be easily replaced thanks to the patented One-Click system. The first one is made from recycled materials and Velcro fasteners in accordance with the Conservation Collective initiative to combat plastic pollution. The second one, made of black rubber, has a ceramic folding clasp. It is decorated with pyramid-shaped rivets, already present on the bezel and dial, which create an exceptionally “fatal” atmosphere.
Each of the 100 copies of this limited edition will come in a special box containing a wonderful surprise: a 10-inch vinyl single by Depeche Mode Waving Tongue, available only as part of this package and produced using environmentally friendly energy and recycled PVC.

“Memento Mori urges us to be more attentive to how fragile our existence is. That’s why joining forces with our trusted friends at Hublot makes so much sense. Together, we can raise public awareness of environmental issues and support the Conservation Collective in their efforts to protect our planet and life in all its forms.”
Ben Goldsmith founded the Conservation Collective in 2020 to open new channels of charitable funding to enhance and enhance the impact of local environmental initiatives.

Environmental philanthropy faces two key challenges: convincing people to put money towards the biggest problem of our time, and channeling that money towards the most effective environmental initiatives.
Conservation Collective has a proven and winning formula for both cases. “We are creating donor clubs related to places they care about in order to open new channels of financing for nature restoration. We’ve seen that people are instinctively attached to a place, and that when it comes to conservation and charity, we’re increasingly likely to want to protect the places we know and love.

We create, develop and support local environmental funds. All over the world, people are working tirelessly to protect their favorite places from the effects of climate change and the biodiversity crisis. Those who are most affected by environmental problems are often the best positioned to address them, and action on the ground is our most powerful weapon.
Our member funds unlock new funding for the best and most effective mass projects aimed at preserving, protecting, and restoring the biodiversity of ecosystems on land and underwater, as well as slowing and adapting to climate change.

We are encouraging more and more effective environmental charity. Our growing network of foundations has already raised millions of pounds for effective initiatives, and we are just getting started…”
